“But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Galatians 6:14
“For whatever is born of
God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the
world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that
Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4-5
The World..
It may sound rather
interesting when one is asked what the World is. You may hear responses like.
‘The world is where we live in’ or ‘the earth, together with all of its
countries and peoples.’
Both responses are correct.
The world in the context of a
Christian means the system, ways and culture of the ‘world’. That’s why the
Bible says in John 17:14-16.
“I have given them Your
word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I
am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world,
but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world,
just as I am not of the world.”
Jesus taught these truths when He was here upon earth. "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). It is absolutely certain that the world will bring to us all many troubles and trials. Our fully sufficient hope is the Lord Jesus Christ. The world came against Jesus with all of its plots and ploys. Our Lord and Saviour never succumbed at any point. He is the one we are to rely upon, in order to walk in victory ourselves. "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4).
Trusting in the Victor allows us to walk in His victory. May we receive help to trust In Him always. Amen
