“Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,” Romans 6:6-8
“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.” Galatians 5:24
Flesh is the sinful element in human nature with its corrupt desires. It remains within Christian after conversion and is a deadly enemy to him (Rom. 8:6-8,13; Gal. 5:17,21) Those who practice the deeds of the flesh cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Hence, they must be resisted and put to death in a continual warfare that the believer’s wages through the Holy spirit
Living the Christian life
could be challenging at times. We go through those moments where our flesh
literally wages war against our spirit, and we find ourselves struggling with
our sinful desires. Like Paul said in Romans 7 we desire to do what is right,
but we find ourselves doing the wrong we do not want to do.
The good news is through
Jesus Christ we can overcome our sinful nature and live according to the
Spirit. But you’ve got to consciously put in the effort and live according to
the desires of the Spirit and not the flesh; like Paul said in Romans 12:2
renew your mind and do not conform to the pattern of the world. Not conforming
to the pattern of the world is consciously making the choice and effort not to
do certain things the world considers alright and letting the word of God guide
you in everything you do instead.
The fight against the flesh
is a daily struggle and so we have to stay prepared. Here are 5 ways that could
help you overcome the flesh and stay alive in the spirit;
• Bring your thoughts
under control – Phil.4:8
• Daily meditation on the
word of God – Joshua 1:8
• Make prayer a habit
- Eph. 6:12
• Avoid being too
confident of yourself, allow God to always order your steps – Ps. 1:1-2
• Surround yourself with Godly mentors – Prov. 27:17
You are born of God; this
makes you a victor not a victim. The flesh doesn’t have the power to dominate
you unless you allow it, so, rise up as the victor you are and align yourself
to the things of the Spirit, that you would no longer fulfil the lust of the
flesh.
Keep on fighting the good fight brethren, Keep the faith and run the race faithfully till the end. So that on that day the Lord, the righteous judge will award you the crown of righteousness He has in store for you.
