“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9
There are different definitions for poverty, it depends on the part of the world that you are living in.
We all know poverty is when
someone does not have enough resources to service their daily requirements, or
when there are no resources at all to meat daily requirements, we can say the
person is in abject poverty.
Poverty can be physical, economical and spiritual. A person that does not have Jesus Christ as his/her Lord and Saviour in order words born again is poor Spiritually. Though this person may be wealthy and not poor physically but the person according to the scriptures is the most impoverished.
Our Lord and Saviour is the same yesterday, today and forever Heb13:8. He can perform beyond our expectations Eph3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
In Mat17:24-27 we read how the tax collector asked Peter question if his master pay the temple tax. His answer was yes, in verse 25 Jesus saw Peter’s countenance and asked him a question about who is supposed to Pay temple tax, son or strangers, Peter said stranger, God the son demonstrated his ownership of everything in heaven and earth verse 27 Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.” He paid both Peter and His temple tax. Today He is in the business of paying our debt, He is alleviating daily any of His children out of poverty.
He has given us victory over poverty and shame because poverty is the mother of shame. Hagar 2:8 The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the LORD of hosts. See how he demonstrated His divinity in Mat17:24-27. Psalm 34:10 says he makes rich with add sorrow.
In Christ we have victory over poverty, He laid down His riches for our sake that we may become rich. If you are not His sheep yet or you are a stray sheep He is waiting to have you back, He is your Shepherd He will not let you lack Psalm 23:1, remember the prodigal son Luke15:11-24 be bold to return to your Saviour.
May we not loose the victory
that we have over poverty through Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour Amen
