Created for Eternity

‘The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man’. 1 Corinthians 15:47-49

Are we created for eternity?

Will I live forever?

If humans are made in the image of God and God is eternal, are humans also eternal?

Jesus Christ says in John 524

“I assure you that whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and won’t come under judgment but has passed from death into life.

So yes, there is eternal life.

The facts

You hear the gospel - you believed it - God saves you and you reign with Him in eternity after time in this physical world.

We must make sure that we hold on to the right message, it is important that we continue to work out our salvation (cultivate it and actively pursue spiritual maturity) with fear and trembling,  been cautious and critical  of ourself to avoid sin.

The physical comes before the spiritual; that is to say the mortal life comes before the immortal life.

We bear the image of the first man ‘Adam - the man of dust’. We equally bear the image of the second Man ‘Christ, the Lord- the Man of heaven’. The resurrection of Jesus shows that He was the Man from heaven. All those who belong to Jesus will receive His life. Jesus is a spirit who gives life. Human bodies cannot enter heaven, after death the body returns to dust.

As human in this mortal body, we must do the work of God so that we can reign with Christ in immortality. To qualify for eternity with Christ, we must continue to work out our salvation.

What do we need to do?

• Study and meditate on the Word. Ps 119 11; 2 Tim 3 16

• Walk in the Holy Spirit. Gal 5 16-18; Eph 58

• Surrender, as we yield our will to God’s will, then we begin to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit and begin to experience the abundant life Jesus promised.

• Humility – Do not let self tell you that you are doing well; that is pride

• Shame the old nature - Crucify the flesh. Gal 2 20

• Walk in the light. Col 2 6-7

• Remain in Christ - be a new person. 2 Cor 517-18

• Pray

• Strive to climb the spiritual ladder. 2 Pet 15-11

Watch out for the obstacles - 1 Cor 6 9-10; Gal. 5 19; 1John2 16 1 Pet 5 8

• Sin / Satan / Self

• The lust of the flesh,

• The lust of the eyes, and

• The pride of life

These will lead to eternity in hell

Therefore, brethren let’s flee all kinds of evil and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Let us fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life, to which we are called and created for (1 Tim 611).

Heaven is real so is hell, chose wisely – Choose eternity with Christ.

So help us God (Amen).
