Adopted in Christ

“For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba Father.” The spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs – heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” Romans 8:15-17

In the book of Romans.  Paul was addressing the Christian about our Sonship in Christ Jesus. To be adopted means taking another’s child and bringing up as one’s own. Christ came into this world and He has paid the prize of our debt which we owe due to our sin. Sin has completely brought separation between us and God.

We are dead in trespasses, fulfilling the desire of flesh and mind.  Ephesian 2:1-2. In Christ Jesus through His birth, His resurrection, His suffering and shedding of His blood, He redeem us back to Himself.  Sin has enslaved us and put us in bondage. By the Spirit of God, we are set free, we have now become the children of God. John8:34

Paul Apostle illustrates that God has given us the spirit of adoption, whereby the believer now has new relationship with God, and we gain all our right of a  legitimate child in His new family. A person who is adopted has lost all that belong to him in his old family. Therefore, all that is in Christ belongs to us, we are joint heirs with Christ. The most important privilege is being led by the spirit of God. Rom 8:14. As we continue to obey and trust Him, we shall enjoy His inheritance in Jesus name. Amen
