“But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:42-45
The definition of serving is to perform duties or
services for (another person or an organisation). In this scripture, Christ is
instructing us to serve one another and this is driven by love and humility.
Christ didn’t just instruct us to serve, he was able to lay a great
example of serving by laying down his life on the cross to save the world.
Serving was embedded in Christ's purpose on earth. We can see in
the scriptures how Christ spent his time on earth using his gift to serve
others, and how this had a great effect on the world. When you serve this will have an
effect on other people’s life.
You were created to serve and serving is embedded in the fulfilment of your purpose here on earth, in other words, the reason you were placed on this earth is to serve others, whether you’re a
pastor, cleaner, doctor lawyer or parent you have a duty to serve. Colossians
2:17 says ‘’’And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name
of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him’’. You must
continue Christ work on earth, this is a privilege.
The gift that is given unto us whether secular
or spiritual was given for a purpose and it must be used it to serve others.
1 Peter 4:10 ‘’Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve
others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.’’
Remember everything given to you on earth is a tool given from above to serve.
The scripture say “And
let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we
do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:9. Serving can be humbling most time but the bible says
in the book of Matthew 23:11 The greatest among you will be your servant.
