“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
After creation, God said, be fruitful and multiply (Gen.1v28). This fruitfulness is the physical reproduction of the same kind. The breath of God (His Spirit) made us a living soul (Gen.2:7); unique of all His creatures. Spiritual fruitfulness is God’s mandate and desire for mankind.
Jesus even told His disciples
that they were chosen and ordained to bear much fruit (John.15:16) and that
they should abide in Him to bear fruit; without Him they can do nothing (v5).
In reality, neither can we.
The key to spiritual
fruitfulness is therefore to abide and remain in Christ; this must be done
consciously. Letting Jesus’ Word dwell richly in us (Col.3:15), enables us to
grow in His grace, mature in the faith and know Jesus more intimately.
To be spiritually fruitful,
we need to avoid keeping our mind on things of the flesh, (Gal.5:19-21),
(Eph.4:31); and to manifest the fruit of the Spirit. (Gal.5:22-23).
As children of God, we need
to be mindful of our status (Rom8:16), that we’re created in Christ for good
works (Eph.2:10) and are to walk worthy of the Lord…., being fruitful in every
good work … (Col1:10).
From creation, it is therefore evident that we’re created to be spirituality fruitful, which often manifests when we diligently serve God and are obedient to His commandments.
As we go out today, may the
power of the Holy Spirit, help us to live a fruitful life that is honouring to
the Father in the name of Jesus. Amen.
