“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

What is sin? “Sin is described as an act of offense against God by despising His persons and Christian biblical law, and by injuring others.”  In Christian views, sin is an evil human act, which violates the rational nature of man as well as God’s nature and his eternal law.  Adam and Eve were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).  Sin had its beginning with them in the Garden of Eden, where they were tempted by the Serpent (Lucifer), to eat the forbidden fruit which God commanded them not to eat.

Adam and Eve rebelled against God and against His command (Genesis 3).  Since that time, sin has been passed down through all the generations of mankind.  Romans 5:12 says that through Adam, sin entered the world and death was passed on to all men because “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).  This death is not limited to physical death, when we refused to obey the divine commandment of God, sin also brings about spiritual death, material death, financial death, marital death, and every area of life.  When Adam sinned, his inner nature was transformed by his sin of rebellion, bringing to him spiritual death.

Every time we sin, it affects our relationship with God and separates us from Him, it opens the door for the enemy to attack the image of God in us and to steal our glory.  Jesus Christ died for us so we can recover the glory Adam and Eve lost to the devil in the Garden of Eden.  Living a sinful lifestyle brings about separation from God as well as death.  Therefore, flee from sin and keep a great distance from it.
