Understanding the Principles and Practice of Assessment Question and Answer 6 |
6.1 Evaluate the importance of quality assurance in the assessment
process
Quality assurance is important in
assessment as it ensures that assessment is carried out according to awarding
body standards and it makes sure that learners are receiving quality assessment
and the process followed by the centre is consistent and valid and is also fit
for purpose.
It also helps to uphold the
credibility of the centre in the eyes of the awarding body, external customers
as well as the Government.
It ensures that assessment is
reliable, fair, valid and based on criteria
The quality assurance and
standardisation procedures in the ICT sector include the following organisation
assessment policies and procedures:
·
Standardisation meeting - meetings are
frequently held with other assessors with the centre to get feedback on
assessment and highlight areas that need improvement or adjustment
·
Sharing good practice - this allows peers to
share their knowledge and work for the benefit of others
·
Observation of peers or Work shadowing - For new
assessors, they are required a period of training where they watch other
assessors during assessment and shadow them

There is an appeal procure to be
followed when a learner is not happy with the decision of the Assessor.
First, the learner can approach
the Assessor where the Assessor will have the opportunity to discuss with the
learner and try to resolve the issue.
If the learner is still not
satisfied after meeting with the Assessor, the query can then be escalated to
the centre; the centre will try to get an Internal Quality Assurer to review
the work or set up a panel to review it.
If this also does not resolve it,
an External Moderator appointed by the Awarding body will be contacted who will
have the final say
