“Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 1:26-28
The word dominion means ‘to
rule over nature’. The idea is that human beings are created to be in charge of
the whole world and to take over every fish of the sea and over all birds of
the heaven and over every creeping creature.
This gave man created in the image of God the right to use world’s
natural resources for our own benefit.
We have Power and Authority
to take over and subdue the earth. God
has made room for us. We are the head
and not the tail, “And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and
thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken
unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee (Deuteronomy
28:13).
If we are to subdue the
earth, it means. God has given us authority over snakes, scorpions and all the
power of the enemies and nothing shall harm us (Luke 10:19).
As God’s creation, he made
provisions before we were even created. He has given us the responsibility of a
care taking or stewardship role to go into the world and preach the gospel.
To conclude, God has made room for us on earth to rule as a true believer of the faith taking dominion because the one who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4). There is nothing too difficult for God to overcome, we must always obey and trust the author and finisher of our faith.
