Behold, He who keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.  Ps. 121:4.

1 mp Father, breathe an evening blessing,

Ere repose our spirits seal;

Sin and want we come confessing

Thou canst save, and Thou canst heal.

2 cr Though the night be dark and dreary,

Darkness cannot be hide from Thee;

mf Thou art He, who never weary

Watchest where thy people be.

3 p Though destruction walk around us,

Though the arrow past us fly,

mf Angel-guards from Thee surround us

p We are safe, if Thou art nigh.

4 p Never fail us nor forsake us;

May sweet sleep our strength renew,

And the fresh’ning morn awake us

Thy lov’d service to pursue.

5 Father to Thy holy keeping

Humbly we ourselves resign;

Saviour, who has slept our sleeping

Make our slumbers pure as Thine

6. Blessed Spirit, brooding o’er us,

Chase the darkness of our night,
