I would like to advise Labour to call its members back to work as they continue to engage the government in meaningful dialogue. Good to kno...
Governments worldwide are making drastic cuts and they are all getting knocks on the head for it but that hasn’t changed the stand. UK Prime Minister said at the beginning of the year that more cuts will be made this year; He said those cuts will be difficult and cause more hardship but that they are necessary.
Let fuel sell for 97 naira now pending an amicable resolution and let the strike be called off. If we want to show patriotism, let’s reject our pay for January and continue with the strike. We must save our economy and to do this, we must be ready to make sacrifices. No reasonable government will continue to run a system like the one we have in Nigeria today and still expect reasonable result.
More cuts would still be needed; some ministries should be merged though this will lead to some redundancies and so many people might lose their jobs but the truth is that; we can’t continue to run massive government outfits with no direct impact on the people.
Politicians who are not occupying significant positions should drive their own cars and pay for drivers if they need them personally; Senators and Reps should not have official cars or drivers but could be entitled to transport allowance to and fro their constituencies but would not be paid for local travels within their constituencies and within Abuja.
Government officials should stop travelling on first class slots; they should go on economy.
If all of these could be put in place; it will not be too difficult for the masses to accept the cuts that will affect them too.
