Do not let any Yoruba worship leader come on your church altar to call God Sangiri Lagiri, it’s not one of God’s attributes. It’s one of Sango’s oriki and I do not know how we foolishly let that sneaked into our worship culture.

“Sangiri Lagiri Olagiri kaka figba edun bo Inan Loju Inan lenu Oloju orogbo eleeke obi A tu won ka nibi tiwon gben danan iro….Sango onikoso ooo”


There are several names you can call God in the bible and you can’t exhaust those in your worship sessions. God is not “o wo kembe rebi ija” which ija?



I have been reading about Sango these past few days and I saw most of the oriki that people use for God as that of Sango……………………….
These are some of Sango’s oriki (eulogy) – if you need translation, speak to any of your Yoruba friends. When next you hear anyone use any of these during worship in your church, dissociate yourself, such worship cannot be acceptable:
