Memorise: For not he that commendeth himself it approved, but whom the Lord commendeth. 2 Corinthians 10:18
Read: 2 Corinthians 10:12-18
Life in the spirit is comparable to a journey, or a race. As you progress from point A to B, you will be certain of the grounds you have covered. But if you are carried away by the grounds you have covered, it may impede the completion of the journey.

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves: are not wise. 2 Corinthians 10:12
One common mistake people make is to compare the distance they have covered in their spiritual journey with that covered by others. It is wrong to compare yourself with someone else. We are gifted and wired differently. We have different divine assignments. We started at different times, were given different resources to accomplish our different tasks and we have different levels of commitment, passion and zeal in doing the work, so we will surely get different results.

Never compare yourself with any man! Jesus Christ is the only standard that we must measure up to. If you compare yourself with others, you may be intimidated by the success of some and probably be jubilant over those you think you have surpassed in achievement. If you consider yourself a champion among spiritual dwarfs or stagnant believers, you have already pegged your ascent. If you think you are hot in the midst of lukewarm believers, you may have become lukewarm yourself. Any time you compare yourself with a fellow man or woman, you engage the wrong yardsticks and thereby get the wrong feelings. But any time you compare yourself with the Lord Jesus, you will get your true position and this will propel you towards progressive improvement. With whom are you comparing yourself? Are you satisfied with where you are or what you have achieved? There is so much room ahead of you.

KEY POINT:
Those you hope to be like may be far from what God wants them to be. Let Jesus be your standard!
